With all eyes currently on streaming platforms, both free and subscription sites are competing for audiences. In theory, genre fans should have a wealth of great content to watch, but the reality is that the most popular platforms including Hulu and Netflix have a finite selection of titles. The majority of their options are also generic DTV or cable productions licensed inexpensively from the same corporate catalogues. There are also boutique platforms catering exclusively to horror audiences, with Shudder containing the most varied programming for a paid service. For the horror fan who has many of those subscription platforms, yet still finds the selection disappointing, Tubi has become a popular option.

Tubi is a streaming platform that has been available since 2014. Recently purchased by the Fox Corporation, it is a free service that offers video-on-demand entertainment – with advertisements. It is similar to Crackle and Plex, platforms that offer a variety of films and television content that are ad-supported. The benefit of these streaming services is that they have no monthly subscription fee. The catch is viewers have to endure commercial interruptions as part of the deal. This can be a problem for those who prefer to watch their content, especially feature films, without interruption. However, many horror fans are finding this to be a minor issue with Tubi for a variety of reasons.
